Hi Beauties

I hope you’re all doing really well.

After a week long decluttering, reorganizing and purging myself of makeup that I just will not use anymore, I discovered this long lost gem at the bottom of a drawer.

Physicians Formula is a brand I discovered a few years ago and there are some products I just love from this range and there are others that just don’t work for me. Specifically, the foundations and BB Creams from this brand don’t match my skin tone … I find that most of them are a pink undertone and that knocks me out of their color spectrum.

Products I do love from Physicians Formula include their loose mineral foundation powder and their eyeliners, which glide on like a dream!

The product under review today is the Shimmer Strips All-In-One Custom Nude Palette for Face and Eyes.

This product comes packaged in an interesting box with the actual product at the front, and a face brush, an angled sponge eye applicator (which should actually be tossed out), a mirror and a guide to how to apply the product at the back.

The product guide says that this can be used is three different ways:

1. Highlighting and contouring

2. Eyeshadow

3. All over face glow

Having swatched the different rows/strips of the product, it is clear that this is a very pigmented and high shine product. It makes you want to put it on your face immediately.

The product is absolutely soft and buttery. It goes on smoothly and catches the light with every movement.

Having said all of this and having played with the product a fair amount, I can safely say that this product is amazing but I would exercise caution while using this and not use the product entirely as suggested in the guideline for fear of looking like a disco ball (unless that’s exactly what you’re going for).

For highlighting the high points of the face you can choose to mix the colors or go with a specific strip of the color selection depending on your skin tone. However, the sheen in the product including the darkest strip is not conducive to contouring the face. It may work as a bronzer but that’s only if you prefer a shimmery bronzer, which I personally don’t.

As an eyeshadow, the shimmers are great for the lid and for highlighting the brow bone and inner corners. However to achieve a full look and a well contoured eye it would be my recommendation to pair this baby up with some matte shades from a complementary eyeshadow palette.

As an all over face glow. Mix all the shades in the palette together and dust sparingly over the face with the lightest hand, concentrating on the areas that are suited for highlighting. This gives a beautiful lit from within look and is truly stunning.

Physicians Formula is famed for a number of their products especially the butter bronzer. For the price point and the quality of the products that they put their products are well worth your hard earned money.

If this particular product doesn’t make your heart sing, you will probably still find something in their range that will. I think that this range isn’t talked about enough and I really hope that they do become a more popular drugstore brand in South Africa. At present Physicians Formula is available exclusively at Dischem.
